Northwest-KLM alliance rearranges flights to India

Northwest Airlines Corp will operate daily flights from Bombay to Amsterdam starting October 15, while its alliance partner KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will operate flights from Delhi, they said in a joint statement on Thursday.

Earlier, the partners used to operate flights on both routes.

Northwest, the fourth-largest US airline, had temporarily suspended flights to Delhi from September 19 as part of a global move to cut capacity after the attacks on the United States had reduced passenger demand.

"This rearrangement is aimed to bring greater convenience to passengers and maximise cargo capacity, both of which had been impacted post the temporary suspension of Northwest flights following the tragic events in the United States," the statement said.

Northwest Airlines will also introduce bigger capacity aircraft from October 15, replacing the DC-10 aircraft with the Boeing 747-400 aircraft, the statement said.
