Tata Elxsi eyes tie-ups in Taiwan

BS Corporate Bureau

Tata Elxsi is scouting for Taiwanese partners for its products design services business and is likely to shortly finalise some of these partnerships.

Madhukar Dev, chief executive officer, Tata Elxsi, said: "The company is looking at tying up with small- and medium-sized companies in Taiwan specialising in product design services for the semi conductor and embedded software industry."

"The main objective in forging these alliances in our product design and development services business is to enable us to tap the export market more competitively and to help our customers make better products faster and at lower costs," added Dev.

Tata Elxsi is a supplier of product design services to global product vendors and product integration services. The company is the first to have SEI CMM L5 certified processes targeted exclusively at product design workflows in the deployment of technologies, including hardware, embedded software, graphics, networking, multimedia and storage.

Currently about 50 per cent of its revenues come from activities relating to products design services while the other 50 per cent comes from activities related to systems integration.

The company has been forging alliances for its systems integration business with different IT majors, with Silicon Graphics India being one of its main partners.

It has also recently tied up with EMC in a marketing and implementation arrangement for system integration in the areas of CAD/CAM/CAE as well as those related with films, video and broadcasting.

Tata Elxsi has recently operationalised a design centre at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram, with an investment of Rs 100 million.

It intends to add some 60 design engineers to the existing team of 150 professionals to carry out design and development activities, which includes systems development, embedded solutions and VLSI design, visual and scientific computing.
