Satyam Computer Services on Tuesday launched its global solutions center in Malaysia's high-tech city, Cyberjaya, to serve as a major technological development and software support centre for its global operations.

Satyam is the first major Indian software company to set up full scale operations in Malaysia.

"GSC forms an integral part of Satyam's business continuity process model which allows seamless support of our global clients," B Ramalinga Raju, chairman, said in a press release.

The company had in October 2002, during the visit of the Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Moohamad to Hyderabad, announced that it will open a centre in the country.

Satyam's Malaysian operations will develop some mission-critical systems and directly support the software needs of its Fortune 500 clients' Asia-Pacific operations.

For some development programmes, Malaysia will be the second alternative base outside Satyam's global headquarters in Hyderabad.

It will not only focus on targeted software development programmes on a global basis, but also spearhead business development in several Asean countries apart from Malaysia, such as Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, the release added.

The new centre will have a 24x7 access to Satyam's global knowledge repository, which can be leveraged to deliver cutting-edge solutions to customers across the globe.

The centre has video conference facilities and is also equipped with high-end security feature such a bio-metric (finger-print) identification system.

The GSC will be headed by Virender Aggarwal, senior vice-president and head of Satyam's Asia Pacific operations.

Together with its management and marketing team, the company has a combined staff strength of 25 and that with the launch of the GSC, the number is expected to increase to 100 in a year.
