August 02, 2003 16:04 IST

Motorola has announced the opening of a new software development centre in Hyderabad, which is part of Motorola computer group and will accommodate its advanced platform organisation in India.

The focus will be on the next-generation product development, the company said on Saturday.

The centre is located at Vanenburg IT park and covers 15,325 sq ft, it said.

"The opening of the centre is a very important milestone for the group as it is the first centre in India and is also the first one to be devoted entirely to software development, which is critical to serving our customers", Motorola computer group, vice-president and general manager Wendy Vittori said in a release.

"We now will be providing our customers higher levels of integration and more functionality to simplify design and deployment of their next-generation systems", she said.

Motorola's operations in India currently include its wireless infrastructure, mobile handsets, two-way radios, broadband, semiconductors and software group business, the release added.
