I-T rebate for education expenses up to Rs 12,000/child

In a major boost to the education sector, the Union Budget for 2003-04 today provided income tax relief to guardians on their children's educational expenses.

Education expenses up to Rs 12,000 per child for two children in a family would be eligible for rebate under Section 88 of the Income Tax Act, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh said while presenting the Budget in Parliament on Friday.
