Ranbaxy plans R&D unit in North America

Ranbaxy Laboratories, the country's biggest drugmaker by sales, said on Tuesday it would set up a research and development facility in North America.

"It is essentially to complement the strengths that we have, particularly for carrying out phase-III clinical trials," Rashmi Barbhaiya, president, Ranbaxy Research Laboratories, told a news conference.

He, however, did not elaborate.
