D-Link jumps on product launch

June 04, 2003 11:31 IST

D-Link found itself connecting gains today, jumping 4.5% to Rs 50.50 on BSE, following the launch of some high-end networking products.

The scrip had even touched Rs 50.65 earlier following the upbeat news. Volumes on the counter, in just a few minutes since commencement of trading, were impressive at 28,400 shares. Earlier on, the stock managed a recovery from the lower levels but failed to hold ground.

Today's recovery follows the company's announcement that it has launched a new range of high-end networking products to cater to the Rs 700-crore market. The new products are targeted to meet the needs of enterprise and carrier class customers.

The range of products launched includes Metro Access Routers, Metro & Core Edge Aggregation Routers and Multi Service Access Routers. With this, the company can look forward to significant growth in the current year according to K R Naik, Chairman and Managing Director D-Link India.

D-Link operates mainly in two segments -- networking and software. It is a leading player in the networking segment in India. In fact, it is the only networking hardware company which manufactures NICs, hubs, switches, structured cabling and modems in India. The company recently expanded its product range to cover areas like Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), firewalls and motherboards.

Last month, D-Link (India) and Gigabyte Technology of Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote a joint venture (JV) company called Digi Giga Systems. D-Link will hold a majority stake in the JV.

Digi Giga will initially commence marketing, distribution and servicing of motherboards under the brand name 'Gigabyte' in India. The motherboards will be manufactured at D-Link's facility at Goa.

The company recently announced that its software and R&D division had developed low-cost IP phones. It also introduced modem-based IP phones with local language voice prompts. The company exports its products to SAARC countries, the Middle East and Taiwan.

D-Link India posted a net profit of Rs 7.12 crore for the quarter ended 31 March 2003 compared to a net profit of Rs 5.92 crore for the quarter ended 31 March 2002.

Total income increased from Rs 50.69 crore in the quarter ended 31 March 2002 to Rs 61.39 crore in the quarter ended 31 March 2003.
