Fiscal deficit at 22% in Apr-May

Fiscal deficit touched Rs 34,141 crore (Rs 341.41 billion) in April-May of the current fiscal -- representing 22 per cent of the total budgeted deficit of Rs 1,53,637 crore (Rs 1,536.37 billion).

Tax revenues were at 2.6 per cent of budget estimates of Rs 1,84,169 crore (Rs 1,841.69 billion) at Rs 4,835 crore (Rs 48.35 billion).

While total receipts were at 5.7 per cent at Rs 11,536 crore (Rs 115.36 billion) of the budget estimate of Rs 2,85,158 crore (Rs 2,851.58 billion), total expenditure was at 11 per cent at Rs 45,677 crore (Rs 456.77 billion) of the estimate of Rs 4,38,795 crore (Rs 4,387.95 billion).

Market borrowings totalled 22 per cent of the budget estimate of Rs 1,50,055 crore (Rs 1,500.55 billion) at Rs 34,825 crore (Rs 348.25 billion).

External financing witnessed a decline of Rs 684 crore (Rs 6.84 billion) against the budget estimate of Rs 3,582 crore (Rs 35.82 billion).
