More flights between Britain, India likely

March 11, 2003 18:06 IST

British Secretary for State for media, culture and sports, Tessa Jowell said on Tuesday that Britain will consider introduction of more flights to India to help boost tourism in both the countries.

At an interactive meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Jowell favoured a "realistic and careful monitoring of travel advisories" which, off-late, had adversely effected the Indian tourism and hotel industry.

Giving tips on how to attract tourists into the country, Jowell said India should develop itself as a favoured destination and offer short tours to British travellers while doing extensive campaigning of the heritage sites and other attractive destinations across the country.

She said the issue of providing funds to documentary filmmakers and arranging shows of art and other non-commercial Indian films in UK would be discussed with the concerned authorities.

Extending all support to the Indian sports authority for hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2010, Jowell said, "We are ready to share our benefits of experience we had after hosting the Commonwealth Games last July where India performed remarkably."

Jowell said her visit to India was aimed at increasing bilateral links in the areas of entertainment, sports and culture.
