BPL cuts cell tariffs; launches two new plans

In line with other cellular operators, BPL Mobile has also lowered STD rates to Rs 1.99 from the pre-IUC (inter-connect usage charges) of Rs 2.99 per 60-second pulse rate to landline and wireless in local loop phones.
The cellular provider has also waived off incoming charges on both pre-paid and post-paid connectivity, originating from landline, cell or WLL phones, BPL Mobile said in a release in Mumbai on Thursday.
It has also lowered mobile-to-mobile STD calls for 200-500 kms to Rs 1.99 per 60 seconds and that of ISD calls to Rs 15.99 from the earlier Rs 21 per minute, it said. Under its Wirefree 349 scheme, the company has fixed a tariff of Rs 1.99 per minute for outgoing calls to landline and WLL networks, while under the Wirefree 599 scheme this would be 0.99 paise per minute, it added.
The local outgoing call charges for Wirefree 349 and Wirefree 599 have been fixed at Rs 1.75 and Rs 0.49 respectively.
The outgoing charges under Wirefree 999 and 1699 would be Rs 0.75 and Rs 0.60 for 60 seconds while the local outgoing for mobile phones would be 0.49 paise and 0.40 paise respectively.
BPL is also providing free airtime and free STD minutes under certain schemes, the release said.
The company launched two new plans, Wirefree 399 and Wirefree 699, both offering free talktime of 15 minutes and 200 minutes respectively, it added.
BPL, which has over 600,000 subscribers in Mumbai, expects the rates to 'offer significant' savings, compared to the rates in the pre-IUC regime.
