Bajaj Auto's September bike sales up 38%

Bajaj Auto Ltd has posted a 38 per cent rise in motorcycle sales at 95,680 units in September 2003 compared to 69,359 units sold in the same period last year.

Two and three wheeler sales were higher by 18.2 per cent at 142,023 units (120,208 units) during September 2003, a BAL release said in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The company has recorded a 16.5 per cent rise in two wheeler sales at 121,072 units (103,932 units) while that of three wheelers rose by 28.7 per cent at 20,951 units (16,276 units), it said.

The market response for GC 1000 -- the company's latest pay-load goods carrier -- has been positive and BAL sold 1,597 units of this model in September, it said, adding the production of pay-load carrier is now being hiked to 2,000 units a month.

Exports of two and three wheelers stood at 12,495 units (6,542 units), registering a 91 per cent increase in September. The exports include 6,700 motorcycles and 5,450 three wheelers, the company said.

In the motorcycle segment, Bajaj Pulsar recorded sales of 27,426 units (14,989 units) while Bajaj Caliber 115 cc and Bajaj Wind 125 cc notched sales of 32,440 units (11,753 units in September 2002).

For the July-September 2003 quarter, Bajaj Auto recorded sales of 380,636 two and three wheeler units as against 348,522 in July-September 2002. The exports during the reporting quarter grew by 64 per cent at 35,516 units (21,659 in Q2 of 2002-03).
