Tech pivotals were the star attractions for the day. Infosys, after crossing the Rs 4,000-mark in the morning deals, remained firm therafter, and spurted nearly 11% (Rs 403) to close at Rs 4,219. HCL Tech, which remained positive through the session, witnessed further buying towards the closing hours to finish 8% higher (Rs 16) at Rs 210. Satyam, too, notched up 6% gains (Rs 14) to Rs 251 on sustained buying support.
Heavyweights largely finished with gains today. Reliance at Rs 410 (up Rs 3) and HLL at Rs 187 (up a rupee) ended with steady gains. ITC traded on a sluggish note for better part of the trading session, and dropped 2% (Rs 17) to Rs 815.
PSU frontliners displayed negative trends. BHEL and MTNL slipped from higher levels and ended 3% lower at Rs 336 (down Rs 10) and Rs 120 (down Rs 4), respectively. SBI closed down a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 430. HPCL, however, traded with steady gains, and moved up 2% (Rs 8) to close at Rs 432.
Auto, cement and pharma stocks slipped from higher levels, and largely finished with losses.
