Sensex ends flat, ITC down 2%

The Sensex ended one point higher at 5,103. The Nifty ended unchanged at 1,599.

Reliance ended a rupee higher at Rs 480. ITC was down 2% (Rs 19) at Rs 1,018. HLL finished at Rs 108, up Rs 2.

While pharma stocks slipped, auto stocks pared gains towards the closing bell.

Sensex @ 1430 hrs

After slipping to a new low of 5,112, the Sensex is now at 5,116, up 14 points. The Nifty is up 8 points at 1,607.

Reliance and HLL are steady at Rs 483 and Rs 108, respectively. ITC is down Rs 12 at Rs 1,025.

Wipro is up Rs 8 at Rs 548. While Infosys is up a rupee at Rs 1,488, Satyam has slipped into negative zone and is down a rupee at Rs 335.

ONGC has slipped into negative zone and is down Rs 2 to Rs 688. HPCL is up Rs 4 at Rs 310.

Pharma stocks have weakened owing to sustained selling pressure. Ranbaxy has declined to Rs 923 - down 2.7% (Rs 26). Dr.Reddy's has slipped over a per cent (Rs 9) to Rs 720. Cipla, however, is flat at Rs 247.

ICICI Bank has gained a rupee at Rs 277. SBI is up Rs 5 at Rs 446 and HDFC Bank has advanced Rs 3 to Rs 365.

Tisco and Hindalco are firm at Rs 270 and Rs 1,120.

Zee is up over 4% (Rs 6) at Rs 140.

HDFC is down 1.7% (Rs 10) at Rs 544.

Reliance Energy is up 1.8% (Rs 10) at Rs 600 and Tata Power is steady at Rs 270.

Grasim is up 2.7% (Rs 27) at Rs 1,055. ACC and Gujarat Ambuja have gained around 2% each at Rs 266 and Rs 312, respectively.

Hero Honda has rallied to Rs 442 - up 1.8% (Rs 8). Maruti and Tata Motors are up around a per cent each at Rs 390 and Rs 398, respectively. Bajaj Auto is marginally up at Rs 874.

The BSE PSU, TECk and BANKEX indices are up around 0.5% each at 3,209, 1,297 and 2,543, respectively. The BSE FMCG index is a tad higher at 824.

Sensex @ 1330 hrs

The Sensex slipped to a low of 5,114, but is still in positive zone. The index is now at 5,122, up 20 points. The Nifty is up 11 points at 1,610.

Reliance is up Rs 4 at Rs 483. ITC has extended losses, and is now down 1.5% (Rs 16) at Rs 1,022. HLL continues to rule firm at Rs 108.

While Satyam and Wipro hold gains at Rs 338 and Rs 548, respectively, Infosys has erased gains and is now flat at Rs 1,487.

Tisco is up Rs 4 at Rs 270 and Hindalco has gained 1.3% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,122.

Zee has zoomed nearly 5% (Rs 6) to Rs 140 on expectations that the company may bag the BCCI telecast rights for four years.

HDFC continues to langusih at lower levels of Rs 543 - down 2% (Rs 11).

Reliance Energy has advanced over 2% (Rs 13) to Rs 603 and Tata Power is up a per cent at Rs 271.

Grasim has gained nearly 3% (Rs 29) at Rs 1,056. ACC and Gujarat Ambuja are up around 2% each at Rs 265  and Rs 312, respectively.

Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, Maruti and Tata Motors are holding gains of a per cent each at Rs 879, Rs 439, Rs 390 and Rs 398, respectively.

Ranbaxy has slipped 2.3% (Rs 22) to Rs 927. Dr.Reddy's and Cipla are steady at Rs 725 and Rs 247, respectively.

The BSE PSU and TECk indices have pared more gains and are now at 3,221 and 1,300, respectively. While the BSE BANKEX index is marginally up at 2,537, the BSE FMCG index has slipped into red to 822.

Sensex @ 1245 hrs

The Sensex is ruling firm in positive zone. The index is now at 5,145, up 43 points. The Nifty has moved to 1,615, up 16 points.

Reliance is up 1.4% (Rs 7) at Rs 486. Tisco is ruling firm at Rs 271 with a hefty combined (BSE+NSE) volume of around 70 lakh shares so far.

Grasim has rallied 3% (Rs 32) to Rs 1,059. ACC and Gujarat Ambuja have gained 2% each at Rs 266 and Rs 312, respectively.

Maruti and Tata Motors have zoomed 2% each to Rs 394 and Rs 401, respectively. Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto are also smartly up at Rs 879 and Rs 441, respectively.

ITC is down over a per cent (Rs 12) at Rs 1,025. HLL is firm at Rs 108 - up Re 1.

Software, banking and power scrips are holding gains.

Ranbaxy continues to slip, and is now down 2.5% (Rs 24) at Rs 925. Dr.Reddy's has lost Rs 2 to Rs 727. Cipla however, is flat at Rs 247.

Zee has surged 3% (Rs 4) to Rs 138.

The BSE PSU and TECk indices have rallied 1.3% each to 3,237 and 1,308, respectively. The BSE BANKEX index has advanced to 2,547 and the BSE FMCG index is a tad higher at 826.

Sensex @ 1130 hrs

The Sensex is at 5,130, up 28 points. The Nifty has gained 12 points at 1,611.

Reliance has gained over a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 485.

Tisco is up 1.7% at Rs 271 with a combined (BSE+NSE) volume of around 50 lakh shares so far.

Auto stocks have zoomed ahead. Maruti has rallied 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 394. Hero Honda and Tata Motors have Rs 7 each at Rs 441 and Rs 401, respectively. Bajaj Auto has gained over a per cent (Rs 11) at Rs 881.

Cement stocks have extended gains. Grasim is up nearly 2% (Rs 19) at Rs 1,047. ACC and Gujarat Ambuja are up 1.7% each at Rs 265 and Rs 311, respectively.

ITC has extended losses and is down a per cent (Rs 10) at Rs 1,028. HLL is firm at Rs 108 - up Re 1.

Infosys is up Rs 11 at Rs 1,498, Satyam has gained Rs 3.5 to Rs 339. Wipro has rallied Rs 8 to Rs 548.

Banking stocks have gained marginally. ICICI Bank is up a rupee at Rs 277. SBI and HDFC Bank are ruling firm at Rs 444 and Rs 364, respectively.

HDFC is down 1.6% (Rs 9) at Rs 545.

HPCL has advanced over 2% (Rs 7) to Rs 312 while ONGC is up Rs 3.50 at Rs 694.

Ranbaxy has declined 2% (Rs 20) to Rs 929. While Dr.Reddy's has lost a rupee at Rs 728, Cipla has gained a rupee at Rs 248.

Bhel has slipped into negative zone and is down Rs 4.50 at Rs 542. Tata Power and Reliance Energy have gained Rs 3 each at Rs 271 and Rs 592, respectively.

Zee is ruling firm at Rs 136 - up Rs 2.

The BSE PSU and TECk indices have gained over a per cent each at 3,234 and 1,305, respectively. While the BSE BANKEX index has advanced to 2,544, the BSE FMCG index is flat 824.

VSNL has zoomed over 10% (Rs 16) to Rs 175. Century Textiles, Orchid Chem, Jindal Steel and Balaji Tele have posted smart gains of around 5-7% each.

Other major gainers include Titan, GMDC, Bombay Dyeing, Jaiprakash Associates, Raymond, Indo Gulf, GTL, Saw Pipes, Tata Elxsi, Ashok Leyland, Birla Corp, Dabur and Arvind Mills.

Sensex @ 1100 hrs

The markets opened 22 points higher at 5,124 owing to upbeat global markets. After zooming to a high of 5,149, the index shed some of its gains.

The Sensex is now at 5,127, up 25 points. The Nifty is up 11 points at 1,610.

Reliance has gained around a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 483.  Tisco is up 1.5% at Rs 270 following the news that the company is all set to acquire NatSteel unit for Rs 1,313cr. The stock has seen trades of around 6.5 lakh shares so far on the BSE.

Hindalco has surged 1.4% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,122. Auto stocks are witnessing fresh buying. Tata Motors is up 1.7% (Rs 7) at Rs 400. Maruti and Hero Honda have gained around a per cent each at Rs 391 and Rs 439.

Bajaj Auto is up Rs 6 at Rs 876. While ITC is witnessing profit-taking and is down Rs 7 at Rs 1,031, HLL is up a rupee at Rs 108 owing to fresh buying at the counter.

Software stocks have gained around a per cent each. Infosys is up Rs 11 at Rs 1,498, Satyam has moved to Rs 339 - up Rs 3 and Wipro has gained Rs 6 to Rs 547. ICICI Bank is down a rupee at Rs 274.

SBI and HDFC Bank have posted marginal gains at Rs 444 and Rs 363, respectviely. HDFC is down Rs 4 at Rs 550. ONGC is up Rs 5 at Rs 696. HPCL has advanced 2% to Rs 312.

Pharma stocks are exhibiting mixed trend. Ranbaxy has declined 2% (Rs 19) to Rs 930. However, Cipla and Dr.Reddy's have gained around Rs 2 each at Rs 248 and Rs 730, respectively.

Cement stocks are in positive zone. Grasim have gained over a per cent (Rs 11) at Rs 1,039. ACC and Gujarat Ambuja are up Rs 2 each at Rs 262 and Rs 310, respectively.

Bharti Tele and MTNL have a gained a rupee each at Rs 151 and Rs 125, respectively. Bhel and Tata Power have advanced Rs 3 each to Rs 550 and Rs 271, respectively. Reliance Energy has shed Rs 3 to Rs 587. Zee is up Rs 2 at Rs 136.

The BSE PSU and TECk indices have gained over a per cent each at 3,236 and 1,303, respectively. The BSE BANKEX and FMCG indices are marginally up at 2,537 and 824, respectively.

Sensex @ 1010 hrs

The Sensex opened 22 points higher at 5,124 owing to upbeat global markets.

The index is now at 5,132, up 29 points. The Nifty is up 14 points at 1,613.

Reliance is up a per cent at Rs 484. Tisco has surged 2 per cent to Rs 271.
