$5.6 billion! June exports jump

India's exports during June 2004 grew by 34.32 per cent at $5.674 billion as against $4.224 billion in June 2003.

This is over and above the 6.6 per cent export growth in June 2003 over June 2002.

In rupee terms, exports stood at Rs 25,824.51 crore (Rs 258.24 billion), a growth of 30.86 per cent over June 2003, an official release said here today.

Exports during April-June, 2004-05 grew by 27.96 per cent at $16.498 billion against $12.892 billion in the corresponding period the previous fiscal.

Imports during June 2004 stood at $7.942 billion, representing an increase of 43.02 per cent over $5.553 billion in June 2003.

The country's imports during April-June, 2004-05 witnessed a rise of 30.69 per cent at $22.434 billion against $17.166 billion in the corresponding period the previous fiscal.

Oil imports during April-June, 2004-05 stood at $6.622 billion, which is 44.69 per cent higher than $4.576 billion in April-June, 2003-04.

Non-oil imports during the period under review are estimated at $15.812 billion, 25.6 per cent higher than the level of such imports valued at $12.589 billion in April-June, 2003-04.

The trade deficit during June 2004 stood at $2.267 billion against $1.328 billion in June 2003.

The trade deficit during April-June, 2004-05 is estimated at $5.936 billion, higher than $4.273 billion in the corresponding period the previous year.
