The Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, has reported that all its 123 students have landed jobs during this year's placement season.

Though 79 companies were slotted for placements, only 49 companies were able to recruit. The highest salary offered was Rs 900,000 a year, with the average salary offered was Rs 625,000 a year.

The major recruiter this year was the infotech/infotech-enabled services industry, with about 37 per cent of the students opting for this sector.

The financial sector accounted for 22 per cent, while the fast-moving consumer goods and consumer durables sector attracted 16 per cent of the students.

The manufacturing sector accounted for 12 per cent, while the rest opted for either consulting or the media.

The infotech jobs on offer included business consulting, software solutions, pre-sales and branding and New Age selling.

The jobs in the finance function related to investment banking, treasury, retail & corporate banking and equity research. Human resources job offers ranged from those in the functional domain to corporate level and high-end consulting.

"What attracted corporates to MDI is our top quality academic conversion process, which equips students not only with knowledge in the functional domains, but also the techniques and ability to apply within an overall business perspective," Professor Subir Verma, placement coordinator, said.

Some of the recruiters included companies like Bharat Shell, Nestle, Maruti, Bharti Televentures, GlaxoSmithKline, Times Group, Dabur, Reckitt Benckiser, Philips, IBM, Oracle, TCS, Wipro Technologies, Infosys, Ranbaxy, JP Morgan Chase etc.

However, business schools like the Indian Institute of Planning and Management are yet to complete their placements for 2004.

The highest salary offered in this institute so far is Rs 470,000 a year, while the average is Rs 220,000 a year. Some offers are as low as Rs 170,000 a year.

Though the authorities claimed 100 per cent placements, some students said hardly 50 per cent of them have got jobs. According to a section of the students, recruiters, like HDFC, are offering packages of Rs 170,000 a year.
