MTNL slashes installation charges

March 30, 2004 18:45 IST

The Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd, under its customer-friendly initiatives, has reduced installation charges for new telephone connections to Rs 500 from the present Rs 800, effective April 1, and extended its leased circuit fault and complaint booking to 24 hours.

The state-owned telephony major would also provide a rebate of Rs 250 for customers who use their own equipment and do the internal wiring, MTNL general manager (marketing) G V R S Kumar said on Tuesday.

MTNL would also charge a registration fee of Rs 500 for new telephone connections with STD facilities barred, he said, adding, this would be "adjusted against installation charges."

The telephony major would also charge a registration fee of Rs 3,000 for STD and ISD connections, which would be considered as security deposits.

The company has also made its LC fault and complaint booking position (telephone no. 1918) operational round-the-clock, including holidays, he said.

Previously, LC fault and complaint booking was only functional from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
