Balayogi may start refresher course for new MPs

Lok Sabha speaker G M C Balayogi today said he was contemplating some sort of refresher course for newly-elected members of Parliament.

Talking to reporters in Hyderabad, he said there were 288 "freshers" in the 12th Lok Sabha and he was planning a course for them on parliamentary procedures and practices and the way members should conduct themselves in the House.

He said all MPs from Andhra Pradesh, irrespective of their party affiliation, should work in unison to protect the state's interests, including clearance of pending projects and release of central funds due to the state.

Balayogi said on his part, he would strive to uphold the dignity of the office and the high standards set by his predecessors.

The Speaker, who is on his first visit to the city after assuming office, was given a rousing welcome at the airport. He said he would not insist on protocol and would himself call on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
