Joshi, Munde to discuss new airport with PM

Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi told the legislative assembly that he along with Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde will soon call on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi to discuss the setting up of an international airport in the state.

Replying to a calling attention notice by Bal Nandgaonkar (Shiv Sena) and others, Joshi said three sites -- Rewas Mandwa, New Mumbai and Sindhudurg -- have been proposed and a high-powered committee headed by the state chief secretary has been constituted to recommend the feasibility of one of the sites where the international airport could be built. The first meeting of the committee was held on March 9, and no decision was taken, he said.

Replying to a volley of queries by opposition members, the chief minister assured that alternate accommodation will be provided if the huts located in and around the airport premises in Bombay were demolished.
