Writ plea filed against CM's son-in-law

A division bench of the Bombay high court comprising Chief Justice M B Shah and Justice Y S Jagirdar today admitted a writ petition against Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi's son-in-law Girish Vyas.

The petition, filed by Pune corporator Nitin Jagtap, alleges misappropriation in allowing the construction of a seven-storeyed commercial complex at a prime place in Pune, which was reserved for construction of a civic primary school.

The final hearing will be on September 9. The respondents in the petition are: Maharashtra state, the chief minister, the Pune Municipal Corporation and Municipal Commissioner Madhav Harihar, Ramnath Jha, Girish Vyas and Laxmikant Muradkar.

However, the court allowed construction to be continued, but refrained from granting an occupation certificate.

The proposal, approved by the state urban development department, received much flak as the plot reserved for the primary school at Erandwane was shifted to Lohegaon.
