Former Rayalaseema Congress MLA shot dead

Former Congress MLA S V Ramana Reddy and his gunman were shot dead at point blank range in the posh Jubilee Hill area of Hyderabad around midnight at the weekend by a group of 10 assailants.

The assailants, some of them in police uniforms, attacked Reddy at his friend's house, about 50 yards from his residence.

Two of the four gunmen, whose protection was obtained through a court order by Reddy, a faction leader from Anantapur district in Rayalaseema region, were on leave while the third one remained at his residence.

The fourth gunman, who was at the gate of the house where Reddy was shot, was killed by the assailants.

No arrest had been made so far in the killing, said to have been triggered by the Rayalaseema rivalries.
