6 killed as Kurla-Howrah Express derails

At least six passengers were killed and 20 injured when 11 coaches of the 8029 down Kurla-Howrah Express got derailed near Shirsoli station in Maharashtra early today.

South Eastern Railway sources said in Calcutta that the accident took place around 0540 hours near Shirsoli station on the Manmad and Bhusawal section of the Central Railway.

The sources said the train left Kurla, Bombay, yesterday. Of those killed, one had so far been identified as Nilesh Singh (30).

Of the injured, eight were admitted to Jalgaon civil hospital in a serious condition.

The Central Railway and the South Eastern Railway had opened a number of enquiry centres at Bombay, Nagpur, Jalgaon, Bhusawal, Dadar, Howrah, Kharagpur and Midnapore stations and Jalgaon civil hospital.
