Postal strike affects services in Bombay

E-Mail this report to a friend

The functioning of the General Post Office in Bombay still remains affected as the strike called by the All India Postal Employees' Union entered the ninth day, today.

The postal employees are demanding implementation of a seven-point charter which includes withdrawal of a transfer order of a chief postmaster, who has been transferred for his alleged high-handedness.

Though it was claimed that six demands have been settled after talks between the management and union, the matter of transfer still remains unresolved. Both the management and the union are firm on their respective stands.

Meanwhile, the help of Home Guards has been sought so that regular work is not affected. The delivery of postal articles still remains affected, which was worst hit by the nine-day-old agitation.
