Nagpur police make hero villain

E-Mail this report to a friend

In a dramatic twist, a businessman, honoured by the government a week ago for displaying exemplary courage in gunning down three robbers while acting in self-defence, has been booked for murder for the same incident.

The police have registered offences under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against Prakash Kalyani, his brother Rajendra, and others present at the shoot-out in Shyam medical stores of the Kalyanis on the night of December 16.

They were booked on Tuesday on a complaint filed by the mother of Chandrasekhar Wankhede, one of the three robbers shot dead by Kalyani with his licensed revolver.

Kalyani had claimed that the trio entered his medical shop to loot cash and one of them fired at him with his country-made revolver.
