Home guards clash with police

Home guards personnel clashed with the state police in Etawah city, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday morning.

The home guards, agitated over the death of a colleague on Monday and injury to another, blocked the Kanpur-Agra national highway. When the police resorted to a lathi-charge, they tried to occupy the provincial armed constabulary and loot arms, state Principal Home Secretary R S Shah said in Lucknow.

While Shah said no one was hurt in the incident, reports from Kanpur quoting the Kanpur zone inspector general's office said several home guards, policemen and other people suffered injuries.

Senior police officers, including the state director general of police, the Kanpur IG and senior administration officials have rushed to the spot.
