 After remaining in the Congress camp right from 1952, the constituency served notice of its changing loyalties when the runner-up in 1991 was the BJP's candidate. True to word, in the 1996 polls it was the BJP's G Mallikarjunappa who romped home, while the sitting Congress MP was found himself in the third position.
