Jain muni murder case transferred to CID

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde announced that the inquiry into the murder of Jain muni Sampat Raj Ji Maharaj has been entrusted to the state criminal investigation department. He was confident the criminals would be nabbed within two or three days.

The Jain muni was murdered at his ashram in Guru Ganesh Nagar, Aurangabad, by a gang of dacoits on Tuesday.

Munde, accompanied by Housing Minister Suresh Jain, Minister of State for Housing Raj Purohit and some Jain leaders, visited the ashram.

The deputy chief minister, who also holds the home portfolio, told the media that the decision to transfer the case to the CID was taken as an interstate gang, operating on the borders of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, is believed to be involved.

During the last 45 days, at least six dacoities have been committed at Nagpur, Dhule, Satara and Nashik. Some dacoits have been arrested, he said.
