Presidential reference on judges's appointment to be heard on Thursday

Chief Justice of India M M Punchi today fixed Thursday for the hearing of the Presidential reference on judges's appointments and transfers.

The Chief Justice issued notice on the reference laid under Article 143 of the Constitution to Attorney General Soli J Sorabjee.

The reference will be heard by a nine-judge bench, as was done in a similar case in 1993. The Chief Justice said the bench would exclude him and Justice S C Agarwal as they would be retiring soon.

The bench would be headed by Justice A S Anand and comprise Justices S P Bharucha, M K Mukherjee, S B Majmudar, Sujata V Manohar, G T Nanavati, S Saghir Ahamad, K Venkataswami and N Kirpal.
