Advani promises detailed statement on Hyderabad riots

Amid uproarious scenes and a vociferous opposition demand for the dismissal of the Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh, Home Minister L K Advani today assured agitated Lok Sabha members that he would make a detailed statement tomorrow on the situation in riot-hit Hyderabad and Moradabad.

The protests began when agitated opposition members, led by Sultan Salauddin Owaisi (Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Mussalimeen), attempted to stall the question hour by trooping into the well of the House, demanding action to control the riots.

Speaker G M C Balayogi assured them that they could raise the issue during zero hour.

Noisy scenes erupted again during zero hour when the issue was taken up when Owaisi alleged that communal attacks in the state had increased after the Telugu Desam government had entered into an informal tie-up with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

P Upendra of the Congress said the central government, which sends its teams to opposition-ruled states like Tamil Nadu or West Bengal whenever there were complaints of law and order, had not reacted in the same way in Andhra Pradesh since the ruling BJP was dependent on the Telugu Desam Party for survival at the Centre.

Advani said that though the law and order was a state subject, Parliament always discussed incidents of communal riots. He said he would make a statement on communal riots in both Hyderabad and Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) tomorrow.
