Naidu's plea on dalit categorisation

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu today urged the chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to consider the state government's report on the categorisation of the dalits into four groups and finalise its recommendation soon.

In a letter to Commission Chairman Hanumanthappa, copies of which were released to the media in Hyderabad, he said the categorisation would ensure equitable distribution of benefits among various castes.

A status report has already been submitted by the principal secretary (social welfare) of the state government, indicating the gravity of the situation in the state in view of the agitation by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi.

The government had already provided information sought by the Commission in this regard, he added.
