TDP supports BJP govt
Telugu Desam parliamentary party leader and former Union minister Y Yerran Naidu said his party had decided to support the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government.
Amidst applause from the Treasury benches, he said his party would play a constructive role with a high degree of responsibility.
In a spirited speech while participating in the discussion on
the confidence motion moved by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the TDP member said his party would not allow the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre to fall, as that would bring the Congress back to power.
Mounting a scathing attack on the Congress, he said the party was against regional aspirations.
The Congress has no concern about the welfare of the
downtrodden and, during the last three decades of its rule, never
cared for the poor. The people of Andhra Pradesh had suffered a lot during the Congress rule, he said.
When Naidu started reading a prepared statement, the Congress
members objected, saying it was not a practice to read out
statements. Naidu said he was merely quoting from the
resolution of his party.
Amidst interruptions, Naidu continued his speech and the entire Treasury benches lent him support.
Naidu said the TDP was committed to regional aspirations, and the BJP had incorporated this in the national agenda.
