Parvathi halts assembly over NTR's death

Proceedings in the Andhra Pradesh assembly were stalled for about one hour over the cause of Telugu Desam Party founder and former chief minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao's death.

Kicking up the issue during question hour today, NTR-TDP leader Lakshmi Parvathi was on her feet, seeking to know the fate of their adjournment motion in this regard.

Parvathi's motion sought a discussion to fix responsibility for her husband's death. This followed the allegation by some ruling TDP members, during the heated discussion on the resignation of Major Industries Minister Basheeruddin Babu Khan in the House on Monday, that she was responsible for NTR's death.

The NTR-TDP leader resumed her seat following appeals by Legislative Affairs Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and panel chairperson Pratibha Bharathi who was in the chair.

The Congress members also gave notice for a adjournment motion, following withdrawal of criminal cases against TDP leaders as reported in a section of the media.

Both the adjournments motions were disallowed.
