Muslims ready to give okay for Ayodhya temple: Shahabuddin

The Babri Masjid Movement Coordination Committee said today that Muslims were ready to give their consent to the construction of a temple next to the site of the Babri mosque.

BMMCC convener Syed Shahabuddin, in a statement, said this will be a gesture of respect for Hindu sentiments. He said he had made the proposal to the late paramacharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Chandrasekharendra Saraswati.

Commenting on the suggestion of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati that the temple issue should be decided by followers of both religions, Shahabuddin said the BMMCC appreciates his suggestion that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad should not press for the construction of the temple at the Babri mosque site.

He said the demolition of the structure was in total violation of the Constitution. Its destruction had pained millions of Hindus all over the country, he added.

Shahabuddin said the title suit was being heard by the special bench of the Allahabad high court while the disputed site and the land attached were in the custody of the central government.

Only after the title suit is decided will the court allocate the disputed land, including the site of the Babri mosque, for any construction.
