Laloo asks government to probe construction of Ram temple by VHP

Former Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav today asked the government to institute an inquiry into reports that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad had begun assembling pillars at Lucknow and Jaipur for constructing a Ram temple at Ayodhya.

Participating in the discussion in the Lok Sabha on the statement made by Prime Minister A B Vajpayee on the recent nuclear tests, the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief pointed out that the VHP had also announced that it would build a 'Shakti' temple at the site of the nuclear tests, a move which should be condemned.

He said everyone in the world knew that India has nuclear capability as it had not signed the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and the present government's carrying out nuclear tests may be against the interests of the nation.

Yadav noted that China was still occupying Indian territory including Kailash Mansarovar.

He said the Congress, which had conducted the first nuclear test in 1974, lost the 1977 election, and the BJP government will face a similar fate.
