Ready to face Srikrishna's adverse remarks, says Thackeray

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has said he is ready to face any adverse remarks against him in the Srikrishna report, and pointed out that the Sena's stand during the 1993 riots had avoided a major massacre of Hindus in Bombay.

Since the state farmers were facing various problems, the Opposition should come forward to co-operate and chalk out programmes for their welfare, Thackeray said at a press conference in Kolhapur today.

The law and order situation in Bombay was totally satisfactory, and no major riot was witnessed during the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party government's rule, Thackeray said. However, he refused to comment on former state minister Ganesh Naik's present political movement.

The Sena chief expressed satisfaction over the Krishna Valley Development Corporation's functioning and the work in progress. Thackeray also denied any corruption in the KVDC project and charged that the Opposition with making efforts to create problems in the ongoing works.

Thackeray also expressed confidence that the saffron alliance would win all the 10 seats in the June 3 assembly by-elections in the state. Over the last three months he merely remained silent and had not become an ascetic, he said.
