HC rejects Laloo, Mishra's bail plea

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Patna high court today dismissed the regular bail applications of former Bihar chief ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav and Dr Jagannath Mishra besides three others, finding prima facie case against them in the Rs 9.5 billion fodder scam.

Others whose bail petitions were rejected included former Union minister Chandradev Prasad Verma, former state minister Vidya Sagar Nishad and Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator R K Rana.

Rejecting the bail applications against the verdict of the designated special CBI court in the case 64(a)/96 related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 9.6 million from the Deoghar treasury in 1996, Justice M Y Iqbal observed, ''Considering the seriousness and gravity of the offence, the petitioners do not deserve to be admitted to bail.''

''With regard to the facts and circumstances of the present case and the discussions made above, I am of the view that prima facie case of conspiracy has been made out against the petitioners which resulted in fraudulent withdrawal of money from Deoghar treasury,'' the judge said.
