Salim Khan gets a day's reprieve

Additional Sessions Judge J W Singh has reserved his decision till tomorrow in the script writer Salim Khan case, who has been accused of keeping endangered wildlife species in captivity.

Salim Khan's counsel Shyam Keswani said the judge heard both the parties today and would deliver the judgment at 1100 hours tomorrow.

Cinestar Salman Khan's father Salim Khan, fearing arrest, has filed an anticipatory bail application in the city civil and sessions court, after a black buck, two spotted deer and a peafowl were found in captivity at his family farmhouse at Panvel, nearly 100 km from Bombay.

The bail application was filed last week, and the judge had directed the police not to arrest him. The final orders will be delivered tomorrow.

Prosecutor R N Mishra submitted that keeping endangered animals in captivity is a punishable offence. The Wildlife Protection Act (1972) prohibits black buck, deer and peafowl from being kept in captivity.

He said the prosecution has sought the custodial interrogation of Salim Khan to get further details about the captive animals. He said that it was essential for the wildlife officials to know the name and details of the supplier of animals.
