Dasari gets six months RI for failure to file income tax returns

Telugu film director Dasari Narayana Rao has been convicted and sentenced to undergo six months rigourous imprisonment for wilful failure to file his income tax returns for the assessment year 1985-86.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate V Periyakaruppaiah of the economic offences court-I, convicted him on two counts for six months RI under Sections 276 CC read with 276 CC read with 148 of the Income Tax Act. The sentences would run concurrently. The magistrate also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each for the two counts.

The magistrate observed that oral and documentary evidence proved that Narayana Rao was guilty of the offence as alleged by the income tax department in its complaint.
