Gujarat sees a 'Ladies only' rath yatra

If gents can do it, so can ladies!

The exercise under discussion is rath yatra -- yeah, the same type which Bharatiya Janata Party leader and current Home Minister Lal Kishinchand Advani undertakes from time to time for reasons his own.

The ladies concerned are members of the Rashtriya Janata Party, who hit upon the yatra in Gujarat as a protest against the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities there.

RJP ladies wing president Sahenaz Babi said this is the first time in the country that women have organised a rath yatra.

The rath is made of iron. And steely slogans like Bhajap tu ne kya kiya, Desh ko barbad kiya, Vaah rey bhajap tere khial kha gai sabji pee gai tel, Bhajap sarkar sovat hai janata baithi rovat hai and Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, ishai shab ko kha gai mahangai adorning it.

Babi said that during Shankarsinh Vaghela's regime, edible oil was freely available at a reasonable price of Rs 38 per kg. Now, even adulterated oil costs double that amount.

Babi informed that the yatra started on September 5 from the Ambajee mandir at Khedbhrahama in Banaskantha district. After passing through 10 districts, including Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Kheda, Surendranagar and Anand, the rath reached Vadodara on Tuesday.

The yatra will conclude at Bharuch tomorrow.
