Supreme Court to hear Srikrishna petition on October 7

The Supreme Court has fixed October 7 as the date for the hearing of a writ petition praying for directions to the Maharashtra government to accept the recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission report.

The commission had inquired into the riots that broke out in Bombay following the demolition of Babri Masjid in December 1992, and the BJP-Sena government recently rejected its report apparently since it indicted the top Sena leadership for its role in the riots.

The decision was taken by a bench presided over by Chief Justice M M Punchchi.
