Maharashtra chief secretary to take action against agitating employees

Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi today said Chief Secretary P Subramanyam would decide on the action to be taken against the employees who agitated last week for implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission's recommendations.

Talking to reporters in his chamber, Joshi said Mantralaya is the seat of government and the employees should have behaved in a more responsible manner.

He said the government has no intention of setting up a subcommittee to review the report given by a committee of three secretaries comprising Naveen Kumar, principal secretary (personnel), Ravi Buddhiraja, finance secretary, and Planning Secretary Vinay Bansal.

The secretaries' report will be submitted to the government on October 6 and a decision on implementation of the pay commission's recommendations will be taken before Diwali, the festival of lights, he promised.

The chief minister said the government was not delaying implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission. He accused the employees of starting their agitation even before the process of implementation could be completed.
