E-Mail this report to a friend

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu today scotched speculation that he might seek an advancement of the assembly election which are due at the end of next year.

Asked by the media about speculation in political circles that he might go in for an early election, Naidu, who is also president of the ruling Telugu Desam Party, asked, "Why should I advance?" He pointed out that his government was currently in the process of implementing several developmental programmes and they would have 'tremendous impact'.

He also rejected the Opposition charge that his government was implementing elitist and hi-tech programmes, saying the Rs 32 billion Andhra Pradesh economic restructuring programme was aimed at fulfilling the needs of the poor.
