Ex-CM Manohar Joshi to contest Lok Sabha election

Former chief minister Manohar Joshi, Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Suresh Prabhu, former members of Parliament Madhukar Sarpotdar and Mohan Rawle, and sugar baron Eknath 'Balasaheb' Vikhe-Patil figure in the Shiv Sena's list of 22 candidates for the election to the 13th Lok Sabha from Maharashtra.

While Sarpotdar will again contest the Bombay North-West seat, Prabhu and Rawle will contest Rajapur and Bombay South-Central, respectively.

Vikhe-Patil, a former Congressman, will contest from Kopargaon.

The Sena's list of 22 candidates for the Lok Sabha and 140 for the assembly were declared late tonight at the party headquarters at Dadar in central Bombay.

There is just one woman in the party's Lok Sabha list, Bhavna Gawli, who will contest the Washim seat.

Of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, the Sena's ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party, will contest 26. And while the BJP will contest 117 assembly seats, the Sena will contest the remaining 171.

The Sena's second list for the assembly seats is expected in the next few days.

In Bombay, the Sena will contest three seats and the BJP three. Joshi will be the party's third candidate in Bombay.

In adjoining Thane, member of the dissolved Lok Sabha Prakash Paranjape has been given the party ticket again.

In Ratnagiri, Anant Gite will contest the election, while Kulaba in the Konkan region has been allotted to Vilas Naik. Maharashtra Minister of State for Forests Chandrakant Khaire has been fielded from Aurangabad.

The others who have been nominated are: Uttam Dhikle (Nasik), Anand Adsul (Buldhana), Anant Gudhe (Amrawati), Subodh Mohite (Ramtek), Shivaji Mane (Hingoli), Suresh Jadhav (Parbhani), Shivaji Kamble (Osmanabad), Kisan Bankhele (Khed), Hindurao Naik-Nimbalkar (Satara), Vasant Mankumre (Karad), Maj Shivaji Patil (Ichalkaranji) and Rambhau Chavan (Kolhapur).
