20 kg of RDX recovered in Bengal

The Calcutta police on Monday recovered 14.6 kg of RDX and a remote control device from the Sealdah railway station.

Officials found the consignment in 25 packets during a routine check near the Jammu Tawi Express, scheduled to leave at 1145 hours. The packets were lying under the main reservation chart on platform number eight.

The police suspect that the RDX was bound for Jammu and Kashmir to aid Pakistan-backed militants.

The Jammu Tawi Express left for its destination as per schedule.

On Sunday, the police had seized five kg of RDX from a person in Nepani village in Jalpaiguri district. He was taken into custody while trying to cross over to Bangladesh. The RDX was in two nylon bags.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agents, according to four ISI agents arrested in Guwahat recently, are using West Bengal as a corridor to supply explosives to militants in North India and the North-East from bases in Bangladesh and Nepal.

Sources said the ISI was using rivers to cross over to Assam and West Bengal from Bangladesh.
