The Bombay high court has found prima facie evidence relating to extortion and threat against a sitting judge of the sessions court. In a First Information Report filed by the Bombay police, Judge J W Singh had asked notorious Dubai-based gangster Chotta Shakeel to help him recover Rs 4 million allegedly owed to him and his son by another person.

Police claim they have taped evidence of the telephonic conversation between the judge and the gangster. In return for the favour, the judge was to acquit two of Chotta Shakeel's henchmen involved in serious offences.

The police are likely to interrogate the judge and if necessary arrest him. The judge, on his part, is reportedly planning to move the Supreme Court in this regard.
