E-Mail this report to a friend

BJP vice-president K L Sharma died following a massive heart attack in New Delhi on Friday morning. He was 75.

A bachelor, Sharma was taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Thursday night after he complained of chest pain. He breathed his last at 0300 hours.

Sharma twice represented Outer Delhi in the Lok Sabha and had also been a Rajya Sabha member from Himachal Pradesh.

He contested the last Lok Sabha election from Chandigarh but lost to Congress nominee Pawan Kumar Bansal.

After partition, Sharma shifted to Jalandhar in Punjab and became a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh pracharak (group leader).

A close associate of Deen Dayal Upadhaya, he served the Jana Sangh, the earlier incarnation of the Bharatiya Janata Party, in various capacities.
