Pak denies putting Kashmir on the back-burner

Pakistan has denied that it has diluted its stand on Kashmir or reached any 'hidden understanding' with India during Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit to Lahore over the weekend.

A foreign ministry spokesman yesterday rejected accusations by opponents of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief's 'policy of detente' with India that he agreed to put Kashmir on the back-burner.

There was 'no hidden content in any conversation' that Sharief had with Vajpayee, the spokesman said.

Pakistan feels the next round of their 'composite and integrated dialogue' on the outstanding issues would be the occasion for India to demonstrate that the symbolism of Vajpayee's visit had 'foundation in sincerity'.
