E-Mail this report to a friend

The Mumbai Port Trust and the city police rescued 15 members of a small vessel that capsized near the Colaba lighthouse, off the island city's harbour in the wee hours of Friday.

The Sabira-al-Surani sent a distress call at 0100 hours to the port trust authorities. They, along with the Bombay police, immediately swung into action.

The crew is safe, the police said.

The Yellow Gate police station said some object struck the ship when it was passing through a channel. It later started capsizing and sank.

From Dubai, the vessel was bound for Haji Bunder carrying dates.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Gate police station has registered a case and further investigations about the capsizing of the ship are on.
