AP Congressmen to boycott Sonia meet over Telangana

E-Mail this report to a friend

A section of the Congressmen, who are spearheading the demand that a separate pradesh Congress committee be formed for the Telangana region, have announced that they would stay away from the political convention of the Andhra Pradesh Congress unit to be addressed by party president Sonia Gandhi at Tirupati on January 28.

Former ministers Sarojini Pulla Reddy, K Kesava Rao, D K Samarasimha Reddy, Dr Geeta Reddy, Laxminarayan Yadav told the media that they would boycott the convention to draw Sonia's attention to the partisan attitude of the PCC leadership and All-India Congress Committee general secretary R K Dhawan who had "hurt" their sentiments.

They said that they were ''shocked'' at the remarks of Dhawan against a separate Telangana unit. ''They are not only irresponsible and uncalled for but smack of his duplicity.

''What surprises us most is the volte face of this senior leader who only recently assured us help. He told us that a separate PCC would not harm the interests of the party in Telangana,'' they added.
