Halt fighting till Clinton intervenes: Sharief

E-Mail this report to a friend

Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief has appealed in person to a number of Mujahideen leaders to halt their activities on the Kargil front till ''President Bill Clinton intervenes to solve the Kashmir issue.''

In an apparent attempt to interlink the Kargil crisis with the Kashmir issue, Sharief, during his last night meeting with the Mujahideen here, claimed that President Clinton had assured ''personal interest in the matter.''

''It's time when we must wait for US President's efforts in finding a solution to the 'problem' as it was for the first time Clinton had given a 'categorical assurance' and he might also visit the sub-continent (in this regard),'' the Pakistani premier said.

Also, Sharief reportedly ''apprised'' the Mujahideen leaders of the latest situation in Kargil and Kashmir and was reportedly promised support on a condition that the ''matter'' should not be allowed to linger on for an indefinite period.
