Lok Sabha adjourned

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Lok Sabha was adjourned twice today, till 1400 hours on the second occasion as the members belonging to the Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Republican Party of India, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party vociferously demanded the immediate withdrawal of certain circulars relating to reservation of jobs and promotion of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

As soon as the House met this morning, the SC and ST members trooped to the well of the House and started raising slogans, demanding withdrawal of the circulars. They had not allowed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to make a statement on the issue.

As the repeated requests made by Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed to the members to go back to their seats went unheeded, he adjourned the House till noon.

When the House re-assembled, the same situation prevailed, forcing Sayeed to adjourn the House till 1400 hours.
